Pharmaceutical packaging materials refer to materials used to meet the requirements of packaging containers, packaging decoration, packaging printing, packaging transportation, etc. It includes main packaging materials such as metal, plastic, glass, ceramics, paper, bamboo, wild mushrooms, natural fibers, chemical fibers, composite materials, as well as auxiliary materials such as coatings, adhesives, straps, decorations, and printing materials. Here are some obscure knowledge about pharmaceutical packaging materials:
· Glass: Glass has the advantages of moisture resistance, easy sealing, transparency, and relatively stable chemical properties. However, it also has many disadvantages, such as being heavy, fragile, and releasing alkaline substances and insoluble fragments when eroded by aqueous solutions.
· Plastic: Plastic has the advantages of firm packaging, easy sealing, bright colors, transparent and beautiful appearance, light weight, convenience for carrying, and low price.
· Paper products: Paper products have a wide range of sources, low cost, and have certain moisture resistance after brushing with moisture-proof coatings. The packaging volume can be customized as needed, and it has recycling value, making it one of the most widely used packaging materials today.
· Composite materials: Composite materials are packaging materials made by multiple layers of plastic, paper, aluminum foil, etc., and they are the rising star in the field of packaging materials.
We hope these unpopular knowledge about pharmaceutical packaging materials will be helpful to you.

Composite materials for pharmaceutical packaging play an important role in protecting pharmaceuticals, providing information, and facilitating use.

Pharmaceutical aluminum foil packaging materials play a crucial role in the pharmaceutical industry, as they can effectively protect drugs and extend their shelf life. However, many people have doubts about whether pharmaceutical aluminum foil packaging materials have an expiration date. In fact, aluminum foil itself usually does not have a specific shelf life, but in practical use, we still need to pay attention to and control its shelf life to some extent.

First of all, aluminum foil, as a high-quality packaging material, has good moisture-proof, oxidation-resistant, and UV-resistant properties, which can effectively protect drugs from the impact of the external environment. Its high antioxidant and sealing properties allow drugs to be stored in the packaging for a long time without being affected by air, moisture, and light. Therefore, aluminum foil can be considered an ideal material with a freshness function, which helps extend the shelf life of drugs.

Secondly, pharmaceutical aluminum foil packaging materials are usually made of high-purity aluminum and coated with a protective layer, which gives them good sealing and waterproof properties. This structural design can effectively block the invasion of microorganisms and harmful substances, ensuring the safety and stability of drugs. Scientific packaging design and manufacturing processes provide aluminum foil packaging materials with good resistance to pressure and wear, ensuring the integrity and quality of drugs even during long-distance transportation and under different environmental conditions.

However, despite the fact that aluminum foil packaging materials themselves do not have a specific shelf life, it is still necessary to pay attention to the storage environment in practical use. Aluminum foil packaging should be kept away from high temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight, and should try to avoid prolonged exposure to harsh conditions. If aluminum foil packaging materials are severely damaged or show obvious deformation, air leakage, etc., they should be replaced promptly to avoid affecting the quality and effectiveness of drugs.

In addition, when choosing and using aluminum foil packaging materials, pharmaceutical companies should adhere to relevant regulations and standards, design and select packaging materials in accordance with requirements. It is necessary to strictly monitor and manage the production, storage, transportation, and use of aluminum foil packaging materials to ensure that they meet quality and safety requirements. Companies should establish a sound packaging quality management system, strengthen the detection and evaluation of packaging materials, improve packaging technology levels, and continuously improve the quality and stability of drug packaging.

In conclusion, although pharmaceutical aluminum foil packaging materials do not have a specific shelf life, attention to detail, proper use, and management are still necessary in practical use to ensure the quality and effectiveness of drugs. Only by scientifically and reasonably selecting and using pharmaceutical aluminum foil packaging materials can reliable protection be provided for the freshness and safety of drugs, ensuring that drugs can effectively and stably exert their therapeutic effects and better serve the health needs of patients.

Are Cold Forming and Hot Forming just Different Temperatures?

Cold forming and thermoforming are not just different in terms of temperature. In the blister packaging manufacturing process, they are two common production methods with significant differences in processes, material selection, product performance, and application areas.

Differences in Processes

Firstly, the main difference between cold forming and thermoforming lies in the process. Thermoforming involves using high temperatures to deform thermoplastic materials. In the thermoforming process, plastic sheets are heated to soften and then formed into the desired shape using molds and vacuum or pressure. In contrast, cold forming is carried out at room temperature using pressure to shape aluminum laminate or other cold-formable materials into blister cavities, without the need for heating.

Different Material Selection

Secondly, the two methods use different materials. Thermoforming typically uses thermoplastic plastic sheets such as PET, PVC, which soften under heat and are easy to mold. Cold forming, on the other hand, often employs aluminum foil or aluminum-plastic materials that, under pressure, form rigid blister cavities providing enhanced protection.

Differences in Product Performance

Additionally, products produced by cold forming and thermoforming have distinct differences. Thermoformed blister packs are typically transparent or translucent, suitable for showcasing products’ appearances, such as in food packaging. Cold formed products, on the other hand, are usually opaque, offering superior protection and commonly used in pharmaceutical packaging requiring high levels of product protection.

Variations in Application Areas

Furthermore, cold forming and thermoforming differ in production speed and application areas. Thermoforming is generally faster, suitable for mass production but with higher material requirements and costs. Cold forming is slower, ideal for small batch and high-end product production, offering better protection capabilities and suitable for product categories requiring stringent quality standards.

In conclusion, cold forming and thermoforming are not just about temperature differences. These production methods vary in processes, materials, product performance, and application areas. When selecting a production method for their products, businesses should consider various factors including product characteristics, production requirements, and costs to achieve optimal production efficiency and product quality.

What is the difference between Alu-Alu and Alu blister

Alu-Alu and Alu-Blister are two kinds of packaging method for food, medicine and nutrition industry especially for hard tablets and capsules. Then what is the difference between these two ways and how to choose the proper ways of packing for your own products, you may want to dig inside.

Alu-Alu and Alu blister Variation

Material Structure    Alu-Alu is a final pack with both aluminum on top and bottom. The top layer is Blister aluminum foil (also called lidding foil) while the bottom layer is cold form aluminum foil( also called alu alu bottom foil). Alu-Blister is made of Blister aluminum foil on the top and PVC film (or PVDC coated PVC film) on the bottom.

Appreance     Alu-Alu is of both side of metallic luster while Alu-Blister is with one side made of plastic so it can be more colorful or see through.

Blister Machine application    Alu-Alu packing machine and Alu-Blister packing machine have different blistering structures. Alu-Alu is cold formed under the usage of the mold to directly stamp the aluminum foil into the required blister shape at room temperature. While PVC is plasticized at high temperature so that the shape required within Alu-Blister machine.

Protection Effects    Alu-Alu pack has better barrier effect than Alu-Blister (usually we indicate (ALU-PVC) against water, oxygen and sunlight. In order to make up for the effects, pharmaceutical companies may choose PVDc film instead of pure PVC rigid film to achieve lower transmittance of those factors mentioned ahead.

Cost and Value     Alu-Blister pack has cheaper cost than Alu-Alu pack. For normal medicines or food, Alu-Blister pack will be enough for protection. For those who are easy to absorb moisture and oxidize,  Alu-Alu pack will be on top list.
